The base glaze fires to a semi-translucent glossy crackle at approximately cone 08.
| For Copper Luster add: |

The added silicia is not necessary. However, when firing this glaze in conjunction with the base crackle glaze it will raise the melting point enough that the two will mature simultaneously.

There are a couple of problems when working with silver nitrate. First, as AgNO3 is light sensitive and must be stored accordingly. It will stain organic material, including skin, so handle carefully. Another problem is its extremely short shelf life in solution; enough for each firing session, at each session, is all that should be prepared.
Treatments Post-firing/Pre-reduction
- Iron Chloride
- 1cc of FeCL to 4cc of water
- Application: Atomizer on cooling crackle glaze; Light reduction.
- Forced Air/Water
- Application: Forced cooling of crackle glaze to influence the size and patterns of the crackle; Light reduction.
